Moving Forward On Race And Immigration
MAY 1ST, 2026 | GRANT JOHNSON
Canadians are finally pushing back against mass immigration, but as usual with Canadians, it’s far too little and way too late. The reality is that a massive demographic shift is taking place, and the Great Replacement “conspiracy” is proving to be true. Within the next 15-20 years, White people will become a majority-minority.
Does this matter? Of course it does.
Can you do anything about it? Not really. When have conservatives succeeded in conserving anything?
The better question to ask is, “What’s the best realistic way forward?”
Before I begin, I should start by stating that if it were up to me, we’d have zero immigration for at least the next 20 years. Maybe make a few thousand exceptions for exceptional people who think they can be exceptional in Canada…millionaire investors, doctors, inventive scientists. Increasingly, however, those types of people are the ones leaving, not arriving, but that’s an article for another day.
I think the main concern for Canadians is cultural, but they don’t want to admit it so they focus on the symptoms…inflation, food bank misuse, housing costs, fake post-secondary schools, Temporary foreign workers…the real root cause is Canadians don’t want the world they know or grew up in, to change.
I grew up in a 97% White Canada. I am possibly the furthest to the right you can go, but I hesitate to define things in those terms because not everyone has the same idea about what that means. Suffice it to say that I’m an extremely right-wing White guy, but you would probably never know it unless you pulled that information out of me explicitly.
Now, with that as the starting point, I’m going to admit that I’m not racist and I am not overly fussed about mass immigration. Shocked? Read on…
Racist social media likes to point out that different countries suck because of their racial makeup and the connection to IQ. The idea is that Somalia is full of dumb people and they’re Black, so therefore Black people are dumb and make for shitty countries. But what about Ayaan Hirsi Ali? Obviously extremely intelligent. She represents what the late, great ZMan used to describe as the “talented 10%”.
Who would you rather have for a neighbour? A 130 IQ doctor from India or one of the Trailer Park Boys? I know that’s anecdotal, but the general principle remains. People who are smarter are usually better to have around in a variety of ways. It’s not the race…it’s the brains. Smart people are typically better at displaying things like empathy and conscientiousness. They are more apt to pick up on social cues and benefit personally from doing so. Intelligence is also related to class, as smart people are, by and large, able to figure out how to earn more than dumb people.
Canada is hard to get to, and you’re going to need a plane ticket to do so. Before the era of insane levels of immigration from a few years ago, Canada still had extremely high numbers of immigrants, but to a large extent, they self-selected as the talented 10%. It didn’t bother people as much to see the Great Replacement unfolding because the quality of the people arriving was quite high. Only when the barriers were lowered did people start getting all Karen’d about the situation.
If people come to Canada and they are smart and consequently of a certain class to go with it, then Canadians will often see this alone as “assimilation”. Many immigrants are deliberately pursuing this type of assimilation with ardent purpose. What do I mean?
I was at a kid's birthday party a while back. The kids were young enough that you didn’t drop them off and pick them up in case they had a freak out or a bathroom problem or you didn’t know or trust the parents enough. So I stayed and hung out with the parents. I was the only White guy there. This kid invited the most random collection of kids I think I’ve ever seen at a birthday party, but most of the parents were Indian.
I started talking to the Dads and tried to be courteous about India, and talked about how the economy of India is booming, and they’ll be a superpower someday. But the room got quiet, and people looked at the floor. One guy corrected me on my positivity by basically stating, “India is a shithole…that’s why we’re all here.”
Everyone nodded in that Indian way of nodding, and I was informed that India is corrupt and they hate it, and they came to Canada to be a part of what we have, not bring more of what they left.
Indians (and other immigrants) are still arriving in droves because they’re attracted to the opportunity and potential that Canada has to offer. Most of them who arrive and thrive are exhibiting the traits that we desire and encourage.
I am around a lot of young people, and due to our demographics, many of them are not White. They consistently amaze me with their desire for professionalism and achievement. They are strivers. Indians are aggressive and have no problem working hard and asking how to succeed. Their families are entrepreneurial and hardworking. They live in a big house together and pool their money and invest it in tangible businesses. I know an 18-year-old who owns a coffee shop with his cousin…while being in the military…and working a full-time job. These young people are impressive.
Concerns about assimilation are at the root of much of the concern. Yet, time will help with this and real life presents me with example after example of how the “problem” is mostly an online phenomenon.
I recently attended Aggie Days in Calgary at the Stampede grounds. This is a venture put on by a variety of rural Alberta interests focused on farming, agriculture, livestock, workhorses, and everything traditional Alberta loves to celebrate. We were there on a Sunday, and the place was packed with all varieties of people. Full on Star Wars cantina. They were learning about buffalo, admiring the horses, watching the baby chickens and asking about the ranches. Everyone seemed really happy. No one was shitting on the floor or getting into religious scream fests.
Shortly thereafter, I went to Pierce Estate Park in the evening near downtown Calgary, off the Bow River. Big families of Indians were cooking and picnicking in the park. They set up games of cricket. Their kids played in the playground with my kids. It was fine. The only person I saw shit on the ground was my own kid, who didn’t plan ahead properly, and we didn’t have much choice. (Head for the bushes folks).
The only guy I had a problem with at the park was some Covid-Karen type guy who was furious that I pushed against a rotten tree branch my kid was considering climbing and made it sound off a couple of cracking noises in the process. He decided to shit-scold me from across the creek, which required me to come back with the eloquent rebuttal of “Fuck You” a couple of times. The dude was White, and he’s lucky I let him live.
Meanwhile, the park full of non-Whites was pretty harmonious.
I live in a bedroom community just outside Calgary. It’s about 60% White. Lots of recent Indians. In the summer, women walk around looking like dynamite in long, silky, flowing, bright orange and blue dresses. Men will have stylish pyjama-style white outfits. Should they be assimilating by wearing shitty old World Tour t-shirts from ten years ago and Costco jeans like a proper White person? Does a hijab on a modestly dressed Muslim girl look worse than a Roots hoodie and a ball cap with a Flames logo? Does any of this bother me?
Not really. I just don’t give a fuck.
The internet will push extreme or enraging examples into your algorithm constantly. This is designed to divide and irritate. Try going out into the real world and meeting people and dealing with people first-hand. Try talking personably with the hijab wearing woman working at the library, or the turban-wearing guy driving your Uber. So many of them are fine and non-stereotypical. (This is actually solid advice for everything that is force-fed online.)
Canada is changing. Growing pains are happening. Assholes come in a variety of variety packs. Canada is a dynamic nation constantly shaped by new arrivals. Is some of that 70’s nostalgia porn that racists like to post online, showing how nice and White Canada was back then, attractive? Sure. But all old-fashioned nostalgia porn is like that. Fifty years from now, our kids will whistfully think back to themselves and their 40% non-White friends doing six-seven while singing K-Pop Demon Hunter songs on the trampoline and think these were the good old days.
The immigration pressures on inflation, housing and institutional corruption are all real, but the average non-White guy who’s showing up to Canada and just trying to make it like any of us isn’t individually to blame. Right-wingers like myself can dream of a Canada with severely restricted immigration, but do it for the right reasons and stay focused on the right priorities.
Racism, ain't it.
